Copyright & Illegal Download

Let me start today's blog by saying Happy Friday!  Spring has finally Sprung here in Central NY.  Now on to a more serious topic.

The other day I received a letter in the mail with a picture of one of my blog posts.  As you know I try to write a daily blog (although this week has been more like every other day).  After I am finished writing my blog.  I would go to Google type in one or two words and do an image search for a photo relevant to the topic of the day to make it interesting to the reader. I would save the image, upload it to the blog and then publish the blog.

Well.. you can't do that.  It is illegal.  There are some sites out there that you can go to and download free images to use but each usually has it's own licensing documentation attached to it.  Especially with regard to commercial use.

So I now have a bill from a company that states I used a photo without their permission. I tried apologizing. I went back through all the old blogs and removed the images. Also, going forward I have been accessing on the free sites and just reading the licensing information very carefully. But they don't care. They are standing firm.

I wanted to share before something like this happens to you.

I also found this very interesting infographic from my favorite site about Copyright vs. Illegal Download.
