Government Warns US Retailers About NEW Malicious Software

According to the Washington Associated Press: More than 1,000 US retailers could be infected with malicious software lurking in the cash register computers, allowing hackers to steal customer financial data, the Homeland Security Department said Friday.

UPS said it found infected computers in 51 stores. They apologized to customers and offered Free Identity Theft Protection.

The government urged businesses of all sizes to scan their point of sale systems for software known as "backoff" - which was discovered last October but not flagged by antivirus programs until this month!
